Dennis DePorte joined the Temple Israel staff in 2004 after spending 15 years on the Board of Trustees. He was born and raised in Omaha, NE, and has been part of the Omaha’s Jewish Community his enitre life. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and worked in the Omaha business community prior to his position at Temple Israel. Recently, he was inducted into the Omaha Hospitality Hall of Fame in recognition of his service to the food industry.
Scott met his wife, Felicia, within two weeks of moving to Omaha. They married in 1990 and have 2 children, Sarah and Avi. Felicia works full-time for a professional membership association in Washington, DC. Their daughter Sarah lives in Israel. Avi, their son, is in college studying Theatre Technology. Scott and Felicia are also the parents of two hound dogs, Ruby and Arnold.
For fun Scott is a baseball freak and very loyal to both the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals. Scott also has a deep love of music and these days’ listens to a lot of Bluegrass and Jazz.
After 34 successful years, Sharon retired in 2015 from Millard Public Schools. She began as an elementary teacher and eventually began to mentor new teachers and collaborated with UNO to lead their graduate induction program for 2 years and then developed, implemented, and oversaw the district’s new staff induction program.
Sharon is married to Randy, who you will see on Wednesday evenings helping with the school-wide dinner, and has two daughters, Mikayla, who is a senior at Millard West High School, and Dayna, who is a social worker and is in her 2nd year of law school at UNL. They also have 2 crazy rescue dogs, Tusker and Tootsie. In her free time, Sharon loves coffee, books, chocolate chip cookies, spending time with friends and family, and traveling to exotic places.
Misty began working at Temple Israel in 2006. She previously worked for nine years as Office Manager at a meat packing plant. She grew up in Defiance, Iowa and currently lives in Minden, Iowa with her husband Bryan and two sons, Brody and Tyler.
Cassandra Hicks grew up in Sloan, IA, and moved to Omaha in 2006 to attend Creighton University where she majored in Graphic Design and Photojournalism. Cassandra has worked for Temple Israel for 5 years and also does photography on the side. She has two cats, Gizmo and Bob, and enjoys spending her free time volunteering at the Nebraska Humane Society where she works with cats and takes portraits of the animals available for adoption for the NHS website. When it comes to eating out, Cassandra judges restaurants based on how good their ranch dressing it.
Religious School Coordinator
Jennifer Goodman was born and raised in Omaha. She majored in Journalism at the University of Kansas and pursued her graduate degree in Management from Baker University. While at the University of Kansas, Jen met her husband Scott and they have been married for 20 years and have two daughters in high school, Hannah and Shelby. She previously worked at the Business Ethics Alliance. Jen loves jogging and taking their family pets to the dog park - including their St. Bernard! In her spare time she volunteers for the Literacy Center of Omaha.
Scott was born and raised here in Omaha. He attended the college of life, majoring in "jack-of-all-trades." He's worked in many areas and has been at Temple Israel for 8 years. Scott has owned many pets including dogs, gerbils and frogs. He enjoys collecting crystals/rocks and creating art in his free time.
Darius is originally from Davenport, IA. He was in the Navy where he received training in business administration and he also went to MaryCrest College to study graphic arts. He has two children, a 22-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old son. Darius love to play music and is the lead musician at his local church, the ICEA Conference and the 8th District Tri-State Council. He plays several instruments: organ, keyboard, piano, drums, bass guitar and electric guitar. He is very active in his church where he is on the leadership board and teaches music to children. He also enjoys creating music with his son. In his free time, Darius likes to listen to jazz, dine out and take long walks on the river front landing.
