Temple Israel looks to bring its congregation together for a relaxed, family friendly Shabbat service and meal for its March 1 First Friday.

“We’ve had great success with our previous First Fridays and we hope to continue that trend with our March service and meal,” said Program Director Wendy Goldberg. “We’ll be serving breakfast-for-dinner and we just want everyone to feel comfortable and at home.”

Along with a breakfast-themed meal, the young and young-at-heart are also encouraged to wear pajamas to the music-filled service.

“We want the evening to be about bringing our community together,” said Rabbi Josh Brown. “And who doesn’t like breakfast for dinner? We’re hoping this First Friday will feel a little more casual and welcoming.”

In keeping with the pajamas theme, Temple Israel will be promoting PJ Library, a nonprofit that mails free Jewish music and books each month to families with children ages six months to 8 years old.

There will also be a musical Tot Shabbat service for children ages 5 and under led OTYGer Ariel Kohll and her guitar.

Temple Israel’s second graders will participate in the service and lead the blessings before the meal.

Dinner will be served family style and members are invited to bring with them a bottle of wine, or perhaps orange juice, to share with friends. To RSVP for the March 1 First Friday dinner, send an email to RSVP@templeisraelomaha.com or call Temple Israel at 402-556-6536.
