On Saturday August 9, members of Temple Israel worked with a team of volunteers from religious institutions throughout the region to start building a house in South Omaha with Habitat for Humanity’s Omaha chapter. When we arrived there was only a foundation and by the time we left we had built the floor and framed the walls of the first floor. The homeowners are Maria and Javier Chavez who purchase the home at a market price from Habitat with a zero-percent interest loan and also put in 350 hours of sweat equity into Habitat homes. Groups from Temple Israel will also work at the site on September 21 (hanging drywall), October 12 (painting) and October 25 (installing cabinets). We would love to have your help, no construction experience or tools are required, just a willingness to help. We are also raising money for Habitat for Humanity in Temple Israel’s name to pay for the building materials and the fees for the professional trades (plumbing/electrical), we hope you will support this cause. Please contact Dan Gilbert (email@example.com) for details about signing up and/or making a donation.
