Congragulations to the Habitat for Humanity Carpenter’s Crew Coalition for completing this year’s house. The dedication ceremony is being held this Saturday, December 14, at 10:30 a.m., and the entire congregation is invited to attend.
The address of this new home is 3928 N. 19th St. and at the dedication the keys will be handed over to its new owners, Lok and Reena Biswa, and their one-year-old daughter Rabeena.
As refugees from Bhutan, Lok and his wife Reena endured decades of uncertainty in camps, but now hope to live in a peaceful environment with their young daughter. Lok believes that the stability provided by living in their own home rather than a rental will help his daughter do well in school and allow him to better guide her to making good decisions.
During the family’s required 350 hours of Sweat Equity, they learned many new useful skills, including how to fix drywall, repair a ceiling, and properly paint a room. Lok says that he is confident that he will be able to fix minor repairs in his new home thanks to the education provided by Habitat Omaha. He plans to save money in order to buy any tools he feels are necessary to maintain his property.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the Temple Israel contingent of Carpenter’s Crew volunteers: Phil Bierman, Jon Chester, Justin Cooper, Laurie Epstein, Dan Gilbert, Larry Gittelman, David Goldberg, Stan Jaeger, Dana and Michael Kaufman, Theresa Kramer, Dan Marburg, Jon Meyers, Paul Rabinovitz, Eli Rosenberg, Lise Sasson, James Silverman, Mary Wampler and Jeremy Wright.
