Jewish Federation of Omaha Mission Statement
To build and sustain a strong and vibrant Omaha Jewish community and to support Jews in Israel and around the world.
Judaism + Collective Responsibility + Community + Education + Health and Well-being + Integrity + Leadership + Stewardship
The Jewish Federation of Omaha is where we, as a community, develop innovative responses to critical issues. Where anyone who needs help can get it and where an energized Jewish community grows and celebrates. And where everyone, including you, can make a world of difference right now.
Jewish Community Center
The Jewish Community Center of Omaha provides a positive Jewish environment in which to build, strengthen and preserve Jewish identity and traditions. The “J” provides its members a unique opportunity to associate through a variety of social, cultural, recreational, educational and physical fitness programs, activities and services.
In addition to its fitness center, the JCC operates the Pennie Z. Davis Early Childhood Center, and offers teen programming through the B’nai Brith Youth Organization.
Center for Jewish Life
The CJL plays a role in community education by providing a comprehensive array of high quality programming to all levels and ages of Jewish learners. Its areas of responsibility include Partnership with Israel, Community Missions, the Shaliach program and the Teen Bnai Tzedek Program. In addition, the Center operates the Omaha Jewish Chai School and the Kripke Jewish Federation Library.
Founded in 1920, the award-winning Jewish Press is the Omaha Jewish community’s definitive source for local, national and international Jewish news. The Jewish Press publishes weekly every Friday.
Anti-Defamation League/Community Relations Council
The Anti-Defamation League/Community Relations Council conducts community relations work whose goal is to promote the well-being of the Jewish communities of Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa. It responds to social issues, public policies and current events, and develops strategies and solutions to improve human relations and understanding in the Omaha Metropolitan area and the region including Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. It includes the Institute for Holocaust Education. It works to combat anti-semitism, educate about the holocaust, promote racial, religious, and ethnic harmony through anti-bias training and promote civil and human rights.
Rose Blumkin Jewish Home and Jewish Senior Outreach
The Rose Blumkin Jewish Home and Jewish Senior Outreach provides programming and support to the senior populations in our community. It is guided by its obligation to fulfill the Mitzvah (commandment) of Mipnei Seivah Takem, “You Shall Rise and Show Respect to the Aged.” Outreach provides our Jewish seniors with appropriate programs and services to enhance the quality, comfort and dignity of their lives. Jewish law, custom and tradition are always respected.
Jewish Family Service
Jewish Family Service is a human service agency whose purpose is to strengthen and preserve life in the Jewish community and the community at large through every stage of the life cycle. Its programs and services include family life education, emergency financial assistance that provides short-term support and relief to Jewish families in need, crisis intervention and advocacy, information and referral services for Jews with developmental disabilities.
Jewish Family Service also operates a food pantry available to Jewish community members to help supplement their current food expenses without having to go hungry. Project Dreidel and Project Tzedakah serve Jewish families in need during the holidays by delivering traditional kosher meals, gifts and other items.
The Jewish Foundation
The Foundation helps assure the stability and continuity of Jewish life and supports communal services in the Omaha area by establishing and accumulating enduring assets for permanent funding resources.
The acquisition of numerous endowment funds allows the Foundation to provide scholarships for Jewish youth, support for the Kripke Jewish Federation Library, programming at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home, financial assistance through Jewish Social Services and much more. We salute those donors who, in addition to supporting the Jewish Federation of Omaha through its Annual Campaign, create a lasting legacy for Jewish Omaha by establishing a permanent endowment fund.
